Today, we talk to David about the program for Wednesday with… #7 on October 24, 2018 at 6pm.

First, we would like to know more about your studio space in Hegelgasse 14, 1010 Vienna. What are you experiences?
I’ve been here for almost 2 years and enjoy it very much. Up to now, I’ve been working in studio 2, which I share with two more artists. I find it very pleasant to exchange ideas and to gain some insights into their practice. For instance, my former colleague Marie Reichel seemed to work very intuitive from the first sketch to the final piece. Even though this process is completely different from my own, it’s very inspiring. At the same time, it’s very motivating, if somebody else is working next to you. I certainly wouldn’t have these experiences with a studio on my own.

On October 24, 2018 you are hosting the next edition of „Wednesday with“. Could you tell us more about the program?
I’ve planned a little walk. We will meet at 6 pm at the metro station Volkstheater, where I currently represented my work “The Shroud of Meran”. The picture is printed on textile and each knot embodies a pixel. The piece deals with the theme of memory culture in the digital age: How will we remember people in the future and how are we dealing with emotions in a world that mainly consists of ones and zeros? These levels of reality and the fact that digital information can be perceived as a characteristic trait, can be understood as knowledge transport, on the other hand, it’s something that our brain is simulating. I often include an ironic and humorous aspects in my work, because I believe it gives me the chance to get closer to people. With this closeness, I aim to initiate a serious and reflected thinking. The walk will be followed by a talk at studio das weisse haus where wine and soup will be served. I hope to create an exciting discussion and exchange. In the best case people go home with new insights and a full stomach.

What are you currently focusing on in your work, and when is your next exhibition?
My current focus is mainly on future-oriented themes. For instance, in my last exhibition “THEY ASKED ME TO RUN – I SAID NO“ I showed objects of our daily live, but presented them, as if we were looking at them in the future. My next exhibition will be shown in January at the Austrian Embassy in Berlin.
