With “Whitewalling – Art, Race & Protest in 3 Acts”, the third reading circle critically reflects on the art world and it’s struggles with the politics of race, and the way that these struggles have influenced how museums, curators, and artists wrestle with notions of free speech and the specter of censorship. By examine three exemplified incidents in the history of the American art scene, Aruna D’Souza asks: When we speak of artistic freedom and the freedom of speech, who, exactly, is free to speak?
