Isaac Chong Wai:“Imagine you are falling. But there is no ground.” (Hito Steyerl, 2011) If the present is distinguished by the condition of groundlessness, where should we fall? How long can we fall? And when will we get up? The works presented in the exhibition “Have You Ever Measured the Reality?” are related to the framework of Chong’s recent project “Is the World Your Friend?” It is a project exploring how the body is presented, covered and emitted nowadays in the virtual world questioning the political and social understanding towards the presence and absence of the body in history, social media and everyday life. The title of the project points to a romanticized relationship among us and the world – what makes the world our friend and enemy? How and why should we deal with the world? A relationship is then proposed to public, while performance and participatory practice are the mediums to examine our roles as an individual and our connection to the concept of the world.
