The reading circle is back at das weisse haus!
Realized within the discursive series Wednesday with… it aims to support the BLACK LIVES MATTER movement. By reading out loud selected texts by James Baldwin, Frantz Fanon, Nikki Giovanni, bell hooks, Toni Morrison, among others, we hope to create a space of togetherness and to increase the awareness of structural racism and violence that our society is built on.
The reading on August 12 is dedicated to the African-American feminist bell hooks and her book “where we stand: class matters“, in which she combines a very personal and autobiographical approach with a fundamental social analysis and cultural criticism. She writes about the lack of housing and money as a child, about the natural mutual support in her black home environment, about the pride in the working class and at the same time not talking about class.
The reading circle is hosted by Faris Cuchi Gezahegn (member of Afro Rainbow Austria, femme non-binary LGBTIQA+ advocate and fellow at Salzburg Global LGBT forum) and Katja Stecher( program manager studio das weisse haus). No reading beforehand is required, as we will read the selected text together. Due to the limited number of participants, we kindly ask you to register timely at studio@dasweissehaus.at.
